The latest from the BTEC room

So far today we have finished our adverts for the event on the 1st of December, but unfortunately I didn't get a chance to add text to mine. I will probably add another update later today. Bye for now!

The latest from the Watershed

Today we worked with the top professionals to create our own invitations, but oh horror of horrors! The fire alarm went off and we were outside for ages and we couldn't finish them, but I'll difinitely finish mine next week.

Films

Today we have spent the entire session watching and rating short films. Some were amazing, but others were very poor. The best one was called Just a Normal Day and it shows how some people are frequently mistreated by the police, in particular black and ethnic minorities. There have also been films about teenage mothers, Barack Obama, pianos and underestimating the importance of health.

The Latest Information

Over the last couple of weeks, my media group has been working on running Electric December at the Watershed. We have been analysing short films, working with professionals at the Watershed and marking the films on a chart. This is an actual real-life project and I am really enthusiastic about it! Today I've been sorting out old sheets and things into my portfolio and discovering my school email, which I never knew existed.

Printing things off

I have just finished printing off nearly all of the documents I creates last year. Not sure what happens next.

The new academic year

Hi there

I haven't updated this for a while. Sasha's group won the film competition (which was good, because they did the most work, especially Sasha.) This year Miss Taylor has stopped teaching us and now we have Miss Wredenfors.

Apparently, this year we are going to be working at the Watershed and the BBC, which is something no other students in Bristol have done!

Shakespeare's birthday

Today is Shakespeare's birthday and I've done an article about exams! I have interviewed a (fake) student, included top tips for exams and included a photo of Porsche posing as a person getting stressed!

Photoshop

Today I learnt how to use Microsoft Photoshop. It's probably been one of the most interesting media lessons to date. I think this is really goign to help with creating this magazine.

The News Column

I have finished creating my first news story. The story is about how we're creating this magazine.
I explained what we've been doing and conducted an interview with Sasha, our sports reporter.

I originally had a background with a picture of archways on it. However, this made the text difficult to read. I changed it to a picture of a sunset and I've tried to turn off hyphenation, but Mr Gove can't remember how to do it. I shall do that in due course.

I've done a light blue for the text background and a darker blue for the title.

The Latest

Okay, so my roles for this magazine are:
Production manager (working behind the scenes, making sure the cameras are working etc.)
Working with Ladan and our newbie Zaresh on the news column.

Sasha and Deanna are working on sport.

Lutch, Jordanna, Shana and Porsche are doing gossip.

Entertainment will be run by Wanda and Tess.

Not sure if I'll manage the finished copy of the interviews, but I'll give it a try./

Okay, here's Interview 3. Sorry it's taken so long. Hopefully the finished copy will be up tomorrow.

Interview info

Just thought you might be interested to know how we picked the students. If you've watched the interviews, you will have noticed that the students in each one are intentionally of the same age range. We made sure we chose people of different ethnicities, and we chose the people we thought would do a lot of talking! We also looked at their timetables to find out where they'd be at that time, and could pull them out of lessons, although sadly I didn't get that pleasure.

The Other Interviews

Okay, here' s Interview 2. Interview 2 hasn't been edited and the Year 11 girls ramble quite a lot. Interview 3 (which will be up tomorrow) looks like it has been quite well edited and I shall probably use quite a bit of it in the final copy.

Interview analysis

After watching the interview, I have come to the conclusion that most people want:

  • pupils' views and not teachers' views, although I suppose that might be a bit obvious
  • Oddly enough, they thought it could be more expensive than we'd planned!
  • Adverts (for youth nights, for instance)
  • Pictures in colour (the one we have at the moment doesn't even have them in black and white, they're black and yellow!)
  • An interesting first page (Our current one has a note from our headteacher, Mrs Chamberlain, that starts with 'Dear parents and carers'. No one actually wants to read that!)

Okay, I've uploaded the video. Enjoy!

The latest

Okay, I haven't updated this for a while. Happy new year, guys! I've been editing the film I made with Sasha and Porsche, and Mr Gove has been incredibly helpful with the editing. Hopefully, if you're reading this, there should be a link to it, but I shall update that in a few minutes.
